How We Meet | Proposal
Melissa moved to Orange County, California in May 2006. She immediately began working at Cox Communications and is currently the Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Marketing, Sales & Production. She enjoys going on bike rides, photography, watching awful reality TV and spending time with friends and family.
Scott works for Advanced Water Heaters, a huge tankless water heater installation company. He enjoys playing golf, working out, going for bike rides, and flying imaginary planes with Flight Simulator. Scott is a die-hard Panthers, Jeff Gordon and Dodgers Fan!
How We Met:
We met quite randomly in a teen chat room on AOL in 1997. Scott was 15 years old and living in Charlotte, NC and Melissa was 13 years old and living in Tucson, AZ. We kept in touch by email and talked a lot on the phone. When Scott moved back out to California after High School, he drove out to Arizona, allowing us to finally meet in person for the first time. We were always great friends, even went to Prom together, but did not really begin dating until the beginning of 2006, got engaged a year later, and now we live in Aliso Viejo, California.
How the Proposal Happened:
After a wonderful Valentine's Day Dinner at the Salt Creek Grille in Dana Point, we went for a walk on Victoria Beach in Laguna. It was very romantic; we gazed at the stars and watched the waves. Just as the tide was coming in, Scott got down on one knee and proposed. After enjoying the moment for just a couple seconds, Scott said “We need to get out of here!” Melissa was confused, but Scott alerted Melissa to the water coming up the beach and we ran off the sand just in time to not get completely drenched… the rest is history. Melissa asked that he not propose on Valentine's Day, but more importantly, he better make it a surprise. So…Scott surprised Melissa by proposing on Valentine's Day... go figure! She never saw it coming! What a great surprise! |
